Angle from tangent

Example: in our ladder example we know the length of: the side Opposite the angle x, which is 2. Online trigonometric tangent calculator. In order to calculate tan (x) on the calculator: Enter the input angle. Select angle type of degrees (°) or radians (rad) in the combo box.

Press the = button to calculate the result.

To find the angle measurement, you need to use the inverse tangent , or arctangent function on the .

For more information about manipulating the figure, see About the applet.

Tangent line to the unit circle. My psychic debugging tells me that CA and AB are both integers, either int or long. The result will therefore also be an integer type, truncating any decimal value as needed. And that is what inverse trig values are all about.

If you look at your calculator, you should see, right above the SIN, COS, TAN buttons, notations along the lines of SIN –, COS –, and TAN –, or possibly ASIN, ACOS, and ATAN. A secondary school revision resource for GCSE Maths about higher level shapes and circles. Homework Help Math Minute on right triangles. Definition of the arctan function in trigonometry.

The inverse of the tangent function. They take angles and give side ratios, but we need functions that take side ratios and give angles. This section looks at Sin, Cos and Tan within the field of trigonometry.

We need inverse trig functions! The adjacent side is the side which is between the angle in question and . Theory: For any ratio of two numbers, if both numbers in the ratio are multiplied by the same scale factor, then the ratio is equivalent. This is also true of the tangent ratio. To do this you need the tangent ratio for one of the smaller angles , and the length of one leg of the triangle. Use Excel's TAN function to find the tangent of an angle measured in degrees or radians.

The tangent ratio is just one of these ratios. A step by step example is included.
