Opto electronic devices are based on the interaction of light with matter, typically semiconductors. Classic examples of these devices include the solid state semiconductor laser, light emitting diodes, photodetectors, and solar cells. In these devices, light or electromagnetic (EM) radiation is absorbed by the semiconductor . Wherever light is used to transmit information, tiny semiconductor devices are needed to transfer electrical current into optical signals and vice versa.
